Yung Kee Lee

With sadness and much love we mourn the passing of Yung Kee Lee on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
Beloved retired physician of Winters, Texas, and dedicated family member, “Dr. Lee” or “Y. K.” as everyone knew him, dedicated his life to his patients, West Texas community, and family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Un Soon; children, Michael, Jim, and John; daughter-in-law Lore; granddaughters Maya and Alexa; sister Ahe Ja; brother Chung Kee; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Chang Bae and sister Jung Eun.
He was born in Taegu, Republic of Korea, on April 21, 1934, and married the love of his life, Un Soon, in 1965. He served as a captain in the Medical Corps in Korea from 1959 to 1966 before he immigrated the following year to the U.S. and served as surgical intern, resident, and chief resident from 1967 to 1972 at the former Watts Hospital in Durham, N.C., where his first two sons were born. After brief medical practices in Kentucky and the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring, Texas, where his third son was born, he settled in Winters in 1974 where he established a family practice and abdominal surgery medical clinic adjacent to the North Runnels Hospital.
Upon retirement and consistent with his humble character, he valued his privacy and loved spending time with his family. He also valued continuing education, baseball, and landscaping while sharing his love of music and photographs with everyone. His legacy endures in the medical professionals who are committed to serving the needs of their community.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Runnels Hospital in Winters.
