WINTERS - The Blizzards had a rough go of things last year, finishing with a dismal 2-8 record while going winless in district. As a matter of fact, Winters has had a couple of rough seasons. They were 1-9 in 2023; 1-9 in 2022; 2-8 in 2021.
BALLINGER - It's no secret that the mighty Ballinger Bearcats had a couple of forgettable seasons going 1-19 in 2022 and 2023. They rebounded last year with a respectable 5-5 record.
MILES - Every year high school teams lose starting players to graduation. It's just the way it is. But this year Miles did more than graduate a few players. They graduated 13, many of them the heart of the team's player leadership.
WINTERS - It's hard to replace a highly respected head football coach and athletic director who spent 10 years at a high school, but that's what Ryan Pannell is doing as he takes the reins from Matt McCarty. Pannell comes to Winters from Sonora, where he served as an assistant head coach the last two seasons, including coaching the offensive line, "At that level it's good to have a right-hand guy and I filled that roll," Pannell said.
WINTERS- The sun was shining on a bright blue morning, but there was a chill in the air on the coolest morning of the fall so far. It could have been the recent cool front that blew through or maybe it was caused by a fierce group of Blizzards waiting to storm the field in the West Texas Rural Youth Football League Division II Championship game.

Ballinger, Texas - The scorecard will show that Ballinger (3-2) lost 25-21 to Stanton (3-2) last Friday. What it won't show is the grit and tenacity the mighty Bearcats brought from the depths of their souls in that slugfest of a game in front of a packed home crowd.
