Abilene Reporter-News high school, college, pro football staff picks: Week 13

Jordan Hofeditz
Abilene Reporter-News

It is a big week of football which means the Abilene Reporter-News has a big slate of games covered.

Things get started on Thursday night with Joey Richards at Shotwell Stadium as Cooper hosts Azle a day early. It's a big one as the Cougars and Hornets are the last two undefeated teams in District 3-5A Division I, with the winner likely claiming the crown. The game was moved up so Azle could fit in makeup games.

As things move into Friday, Abilene High travels to Ratliff Stadium to face Odessa High. The Eagles are coming off a big homecoming win and could take a big step towards the playoffs with a win. Tony Venegas of the Odessa American will have coverage.

Wylie will try to shake off a tough loss at Canyon Randall by taking on No. 9 Lubbock-Cooper. The Pirates are coming off a two-week quarantine and the Bulldogs know what playing after a long break can be like. Alexis Cubit of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal will be at Pirate Stadium for the game.

Stephen Garcia will be in Floydada as Ballinger takes on Spearman in a Region I-3A Division II area playoff clash for his Big Country Game of the Week.

Richards will be on hand for a doubleheader in Big Spring as Hawley takes on Sundown before Westbrook and Garden City clash in six-man action. Jordan Hofeditz will be in Stephenville as Sweetwater takes on Celina. Meanwhile, Greg Jaklewicz will have Anson against Post in Clyde.
