Two arrested for felony possession of pot in Winters

Police discovered 234 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop in Winters early Monday morning.

WINTERS  - A man and a woman from Austin were arrested early Monday morning for possession of more than 200 pounds of marijuana, according to the Winters Police Department.

The two were arrested following a traffic stop for speeding on State Highway 153 at around 1 a.m. Monday morning. During the traffic stop, K-9 Phobos alerted to the presence of an illegal substance in the vehicle. Officers conducted a search and discovered five duffle bags filled with 234 pounds of marijuana.

Leonard Castillo, 55, and Roxanne Gomez, 21, both of Austin were arrested at the scene. Castillo was charged with possession of marijuana and driving while license invalid and remains in custody on bonds totaling $151,500. Gomez was charged with possession of marijuana and remains in custody on a $150,000 bond.
