San Angelo man charged in connection to shooting death of Winters man, arrested in Ballinger

A San Angelo man has been arrested on multiple warrants in Runnels County and Tom Green County.

SAN ANGELO — A San Angelo man has been arrested Monday in connection to the shooting death of Daniel Chandler, 41, of Winters, according to the Runnels County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, the Runnels County Sheriff's Office made a social media post that a San Angelo man had been arrested at the Shoppin' Basket, 610 Hutchins Ave., in Ballinger. 

The arrest came as part of a joint operation with the San Angelo Police Department, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and Runnels County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement arrested Cody Ray Salazar on suspicion of murder, possession of marijuana, evading arrest detention and debit card abuse. He remained in the Runnels County Jail in lieu of a $1,011,000 bond as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.

What happened to Daniel Chandler?

About 1:16 a.m. June 28, 2021, San Angelo police discovered Chandler had been fatally shot at the Inn of the Conchos, 2021 N. Bryant Blvd., according to a police news release.

Court documents were unavailable as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police have not released further details as to what led to the arrest.
