Ballinger ISD hosts Little Olympics
On Friday, May 21st, Ballinger ISD hosted their annual Little Olympics. The games have been a staple of Ballinger ISD for over 50 years. Driving up to the field at Ballinger High School you would have thought a varsity football game was about to start. Parents and family members, and friends filled the stands, cheering on every child, not just their own. The goodwill, spirit and sportsmanship of the Olympic Games filled the stadium.
Records are kept for all of the events such as fastest times in races, longest baseball throw, longest softball throw, and much more.
Ballinger High School athletic director and head football coach Chuck Lipsey was the emcee of the event, using the starter pistol for each race. The races consisted of individual and team events, everything from the 50m dash to 200m relays. The softball throw and baseball throw were also part of the games.
Ballinger High School athletes helped the tykes with each event, acting as coaches and motivators. It was a beautiful Spring day under bluebird skies with mild temperatures as the evening started moving in. The concession stand volunteers served cold drinks and snacks as the events continued to build a sense of camaraderie among everyone in attendance and those helping the kiddos out with the events.
