Mejor que Nada BBQ cook-off
Jeff Smith of KRUN radio, along with his brother, Barrett, hosted the 2nd annual Mejor que Nada barbecue cook-off at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Rowena. It wasn't just the bbq that people came for. Inside the hall, vendors set up with everything from homemade pastries to crafts. Outside were 2 bounce houses for youngsters to have fun on. There were food vendors outdoors as well.
Miles Chili Cook-off
The Catch Pen in Miles hosted their 2nd annual chili cook off and Corn Hole tournament. The Corn Hole Tournament winners were Damian and Kevin Michalewicz. 2nd place went to Mike Schwertner and Caleb Rodgers.
In the Corn Hole Calcutta, 1st place went to Diane Michalewicz. 2nd place went to Kyle and Julie Smithwick.
In the Bloody Mary competition, 1st place went to Damn Hot Chili. The Calcutta was won by Neil Schwartz.
For the grand contest, the chili cook-off, Tammy Pitt brought home 1st place, while Mike Tuckhorn took home 2nd place honors. The Calcutta went to Sergio Moran. Bubba Ellison came in 2nd.
The Ballinger Bearcats baseball team is still in the playoffs after defeating Reagan County, 2-1. Their next game will be on May 15 against Early.
Ballinger High School graduation will be on May 22nd at 10 a.m. at Bearcat stadium. The event may be postponed if inclement weather hits. You can follow the updates on the Ballinger Independent School District Facebook page.
Ballinger Chamber of Commerce
At their annual banquet, the Ballinger Chamber of Commerce awarded Citizen of the Year honors to Dr. Bradly Bundrant, of Ballinger Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bundrant advised the Ballinger school district throughout the pandemic over the last year.
