Miles Trade Days

Miles Trade Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 1. Downtown businesses will be open and vendors will be on the sidewalks. Free 10' x 15' booths are available. The Miles Public Library also will have a free book give-away on the sidewalk. 

Meals on Wheels Plus 29th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Meals on Wheels Plus provides home delivered meals to over 1,425 people living in Abilene and surrounding areas who are elderly, or younger adults with disabilities, and are unable to provide balanced meals for themselves.

The 29th Annual Meals on Wheels Charity Golf Tournament. Individual entry fee is $150.00 per golfer and Sponsorships are still available. Deadline to enter is Friday, April 23, 2021.Proceeds from the event will help provide home delivered meals and safety checks for the elderly and adults with disabilities in our community. Includes lunch

Runnels County Historical Commission

A Driving Tour of Spring Wild Flowers, Wildlife, and Historical Sites

Saturday, May 1, 2021.  Meet at Runnels County Courthouse at 8:00 am, or join us in Winters and leave from Z. I. Hale Museum at 8:30 am.  Please invite friends and combine together in vehicles if you have had COVID shots.  Tour is 94 miles and will end at Lowake Steak House in Rowena for lunch.  Bring your camera.  Make sure you have plenty of gas.  One person in each vehicle will need to provide your phone number for texts during tour. These texts will refer you to sites on the tour narrative. You may want to bring your RCHC books—Historical Markers and Schools.  For more information, Randall’s phone is 325-365-1026, Beverly’s is 326-365-6400, and Linda’s is 325-977-0625.  Some areas do not have cell service, but usually texts work.  The RCHC will have a meeting after lunch.

Ballinger Education Foundation

The Ballinger Education Foundation is hosting a drive-thru only Taco Pile-On Luncheon for Sunday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ballinger Community Center.  Plates will be $8 each and all proceeds will be used for the benefit of the Ballinger Education Foundation.

Ballinger Women's Club

The Ballinger Woman's Club is having their Lasagna Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the First Baptist Church. Plates are $10 each. This will be a 'drive-thru' only at the alley behind First Baptist Church. The club uses these funds for donations to the Ballinger Carnegie Library, High School Senior Scholarship, and other local needs.

Ballinger Woman's Club members meeting Feb. 24 enjoyed a talk given by former Ballinger Elementary School counselor, Joyce Smith. Joyce told of her many foreign country experiences with several involving working with children. She also traveled extensively with Operation Smile, an American organization that provides corrective surgery nationwide for children who have cleft lip/cleft palate. 

Woman's club annual meal fundraiser planned for March was postponed due to the bad weather. The lasagna lunch will be held Tuesday, March 30  - as 'drive-thru' only at the alley behind First Baptist Church. The club uses these funds for donations to the Ballinger Carnegie Library, High School Senior Scholarship, and other local needs. 

The Woman's Club appreciates all the past support Ballinger folks have given while enjoying the tasty meal. Please continue to attend the fundraiser luncheon.

1925 Runnels County Jail, Inc.

The 1925 Runnels County Jail is a 501(c)(3) formed to restore the 1925. The project is accepting donations. Contact Runnels County Clerk Julia Miller or Jail Administrator Kimberly Dunn for more information. Clerk's office: 325-365-2720

Runnels County Historical Commission

The Runnels County Historical Commission’s latest book Stories from Runnels County Volume IV will make a great gift for someone special. The 388-page book is divided into five sections—County History, Communities, County Businesses, General Stories and Early Families. Learn about the saloons, stagecoaches, railroads, and an 1840 Indian fight in Runnels County.

Stories from Runnels County is available for $48, and shipping is an additional $7. Humane Society of Ballinger

The Humane Society of Ballinger promotes responsible pet guardianship and the humane care and treatment of animals. The Humane Society takes in strays and places them in cities around the country. All donations are used for the care and placement of stray animals.

Baby Boomers wanted

Ballinger Recycling Center Recycling Center Hours

The City of Ballinger's Recycling center, located at South 7th Street and Sealy Avenue is open from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Carnegie Library

We are open now with our regular hours. Regular hours are 10-5 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Open 10-6 on Tuesday. We also have a librarian who is a Notary Public. It costs $5 per document notarized.

We have many new titles from easy readers to adult. We have audio books and movies available for check out. We have free Wifi and 5 patron computers available. CASA volunteers wanted

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Tom Green County, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seeking volunteers. Currently CASA serves 60 percent of the children in foster care. Senior citizens are welcome to join us for “Pot Luck” and Friends of Seniors of Winters Friday Night Games starting at 5:50 p.m. at 601 Wood Street Winters Senior Activity Center.

Meals on Wheels volunteers needed

Do you want to do something to help your fellow community members? Volunteers are needed as new clients have been added to the Meals on Wheels Plus program in Runnels County. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Ballinger Noon Lions Club

The Ballinger Noon Lions Club wants to thank all businesses who participate in the Flag Project. The club would like to invite new businesses to join our Flag Project. On all major holidays members place flags out and pick them up. The annual cost for this service is $24.

Paint Rock Masonic Lodge meeting

The Paint Rock Masonic Lodge No. 613 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Supper will be provided after the meeting held at the Masonic Lodge building located at 360 South Roberts on U.S. Highway 83 South.

Senior Citizen Lunch

The First United Methodist Church in Ballinger will provide a free lunch to Ballinger senior citizens on the second Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizens Center. The meal will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The doors will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make time for seniors attending to have time for visiting and fellowship. Anyone who needs a ride to the lunch, please call 325-365-2323. Wheelchairs cannot be transported.

Visit 'Friendly Neighbors'

The Texas Extension Education Agency “Friendly Neighbors” invites everybody in the Runnels County area who is interested in learning about cooking, gardening, arts and crafts and other useful subjects to meetings at 2 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month (except during the summer). Meetings will alternate between the Runnels County Extension Office on the corner of south 7th Street and Sealy Ave. in Ballinger and the Winters Public Library at 120 N. Main St. in Winters. WIC open to many families

(WIC) is located in the First United Methodist Church on 1501 N. Broadway Street, phone number is 325-365-5925. WIC is open Monday and Wednesday only from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch.

Wingate Masonic Lodge meetings

The Wingate Masonic Lodge 1042 A.F. & A.M., meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month, at the Wilmeth Lodge.

Winters Food Bank & Thrift Store

The Winters Food Bank and remodeled Thrift Store located at the Samaritan House is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon and Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Winters Public Library

Winters Tai Chi

The Winters Tai Chi group meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the First Baptist Church Jones Hall. Slow stretches and breathing exercises are suitable for senior citizens. Benefits include improved balance and agility. Cost is free. Participants should bring along water.

Z.I. Hales Museum

Fascinated by old tractors? How about feeding that fascination and visiting the Gus Pruser Agriculture Exhibit. The exhibit is open Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Or, better yet plan to join the 'Friends of Gus' group on the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. They meet at the Gus Pruser Agriculture Exhibit which is located at 217 W. Dale, Winters, TX.

The notice for Z. I. Hale Museum dues for the coming year is now done through Winters Gives. The annual family membership is $25, business is $50, and lifetime membership is $200. Please send in your dues for 2021, either through a Winters Gives envelope or mail directly to P.O. Box 211, Winters, TX 79567. It takes about $1,800 per month to operate the Museum — insurance, utilities, yard maintenance, repairs, etc. The ladies are doing less meals this year for fundraising, but we were fortunate enough to receive a $10,000 grant from Humanities Texas to help take up the slack during this difficult year.  Any extra donations are also much appreciated and you may want to support some of the other organizations as well. Thank you.

Winters Gives

The Season of Giving in Winters resulted in over $20,000 being donated through the Winters Area Foundation to benefit several local charities. Receiving funds were the Winters Child Development Center, Winters Ministerial Alliance, Winters Public Library, Winters Sports and Recreation and Z.I. Hale Museum. All of these are 501 C (3) organizations which are entitled to receive charitable donations.

Many of the donations came from former residents who still celebrate their Winters roots and want good things to continue in our city. Donations are still being accepted.  Memorials are also welcomed. Donations may be made to Winters Gives, Box 211, Winters, TX 79567.
