LUBBOCK — Miles Bulldog junior Kyle Vahlenkamp is head to the UIL Class 2A boys cross country state championships Nov. 9 in Round Rock based on his performance at the Region I-2A meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock Monday.

Vahlenkamp placed 13th overall, and fourth among the top 10 runners on non-qualifying teams, with a time of 17:43.7. The four teams and top 10 runners not on those teams advance to state.

Also competing at regionals Monday, the Ballinger Bearcats finished 15th as team in the Region I-3A boys run. Regional qualifiers for Ballinger included Javion Zavala (46th, 18:01.3), Joe Marcus Guerrero (84th, 18:54.6), Dylan Hostetter (89th, 19:03.6), Andres Garza (98th, 19:18.7), Jaton Reed (110th, 19:42.8), Carter Arrott (114th, 19:52.1) and Nate Gallant (159th, 23:53.9)

The Ballinger Lady Cats also competed at regionals placed 17th in the Region I-3A girls portion of the event. Runners included Danielle Pena (21st, 12:57.6), Addison Martin (25th, 13:04.1), Jillian Halfmann (102nd, 14:15.3), Skyla Hostetter (116th, 14:31.8), Emaleigh Rosser (118th, 14:35.7), Natalia Rangel (128th, 14:46.6) and Jenna Battle, (135th, 14:51.2).

The Winters Lady Blizzards were also on hand and placed 17th in the Region I-2A girls run. Competitors included Natalie Lara (31st, 13:30.7), Hailey Renfro (57th, 14:03.8), Serinity Luera (98th, 14:45.8), Millie Rios (131st, 15:37.8), Jezebel Gonzalez (137th, 15:55.6), Tammy Zachary (142nd, 16:11.2) and Esmeralda Gallegos (158th, 17:27.5).
