MERKEL — The Ballinger Bearcats chalked up their third consecutive District 4-3A Division II victory Friday night, 53-0 over the Merkel Badgers.
The Bearcats (6-2, 3-2) currently own the No. 3 playoff seed from the district with two games remaining — at home against Coleman (3-5, 2-3) Friday night and at San Angelo TCLA (1-7, 1-4) to close out the regular season.
Against Merkel (1-7, 1-2), the Bearcats led 13-0 after one quarter, 40-0 at halftime and tallied their final two touchdowns in the third quarter.
Ballinger generated 528 yards of total offense — 340 rushing and 188 passing — with just one turnover. Merkel mustered just 108 total yards — 74 on the ground and 34 through the air — and lost three fumbles.
Cooper Bean rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns from 1, 24 and 38 yards out, while Tyler Vaughn connected on 8 of 9 passes for 188 yards and three scores — one each to Weston Rollwitz for 84 yards, Garrett Dixon for 23 yards and Braden Bowman for 31 yards. Bowden caught three passes for 44 yards, Rollwitz finished with two grabs for 84 and Dixon tallied two receptions for 47 yards.
Beau Perkins added 97 yards on the ground, Rollwitz rushed for 51, Carter Arnott added 40 and Vaughn picked up 23 rushing yards.
Winters 20, Forsan 13
FORSAN —The Winters Blizzards notched their first District 3-2A Division I victory of the season, 20-13 over Forsan Friday night.
Winters (5-4, 1-2) trailed 3-0 after one quarter, drew even at 6 at halftime and faced a 13-12 deficit in the fourth period, where the Blizzards scored the only points.
Winters gave up 242 total yards to Forsan (3-5, 0-2).

The Blizzards wrap up their regular season at home against Ozona (6-2, 2-0) as their district bye falls in Week 10. Winters currently sits in fourth place in the district standings, as the top four teams move on the playoffs.
Miles at Christoval
The Miles Bulldogs are coming off their District 8-2A Division II bye, which comes on the heels of 70-0 loss to Eldorado.
Miles (6-2, 1-1) is currently alone in third place in the district standings begin league co-leaders Eldorado (7-1, 2-0), and Christoval (8-0, 2-0), which welcomes the Bulldogs Friday night.
Miles will close its season at home Nov. 8 against Rocksprings (3-6, 0-), which has a bye this week and is currently at the bottom of the league standings.
