WINTERS - The Winters Country Club held its annual the 52nd Annual Industrial Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 9. This was the 52nd year for local and area businesses to sponsor teams and show support for the game of golf and sportsmanship offered by the Winters Country Club. Thirty-two sponsors filled the course with three person teams in a best ball scramble.
When the field cleared the team sponsored by EHT posted the best score of 57. Team members were Connie Gibbs, Devin Martinez and RP Mitchell. Second place in the Championship flight was the Pioneer Vet team of Whitlow, Shields and Glynn with a score of 59 and followed closely behind the Atmos Energy team of Ochoa, Tamez and Ventress with a round of 60.
First Flight winning teams were Grimes, Halfman and Springer of Yellowhouse Machinery Co., and Security State Bank. The winning teams in the Second Flight were Standard Pump #1, CLS Ag #2 and Lund #1.
Long drive winners were Ian Young for the men and Virgina Ochoa for the ladies. Close to the pin winners were Martin Martinez for the men and Logan Wood for the ladies.
In addition to the team sponsors there were 18 hole sponsors and numerous businesses and individuals who donated door prizes and auction items. On Friday all of the teams were offered a practice round followed by a meal of hamburgers and smoked sausage. The members of the Winters Country Club wish to thank everyone who sponsored or who donated to the very successful tournament.
The lack of rain this year left the course with little fairway grass, but the greens were in great shape thanks to many hours of volunteer work from WCC members. The Winters Country Club is fully maintained through hundreds of selfless hours by members to water, mow, trim, paint, repair and service equipment and just to do whatever needs to be done whenever it needs to be done. A big thanks to all who make this happen every week.
