Athletes from Winters and Miles competed in the District 7-2A Track and Field Championships in Mertzon on April 4-5.

Athletes from Winters and Miles competed in the District 7-2A Track and Field Championships in Mertzon on April 4-5.

"We couldn't be more proud of our Blizzards and Lady Blizzards track teams," said Winters Coach Bryan Green.

The Winters qualifiers for the Area Meet at Angelo State University on April 16 include Baily Knight, Karlee Busher, Hailey Renfro, Natalie Lara, Evelyn King, Monique Carrillo, Cecille Hunter, Chris Diaz, Jovan Young, Cameron Perkins, Hunter Duggan, Alex Salas, Miguel Rodriguez, Gage McFadin, Reagan Rodriguez and Sema'jae Jackson.

During the meet, the varsity boys team racked up 111 points, with the the varsity girls taking 5th place with 72.3 points. The JV girls were named District Champions with 128 points and the JV boys ranked 4th with 63 points.

Top scorers during the meet included Duggan who won 1st in discus followed by Chris Diaz who placed 3rd. Jovan Young won 1st place in the 400m dash.

In the 400 m dash, Baily Knight 1st followed by Natalie Lara in 3rd place.

Avery Wheat won 1st place in the girls category in the 200m dash and the 100m hurdles.

Miles qualifiers included Joe Meza, 2nd place in the 3200m run, Imanol Zea, 3rd place in the 3200m run, Skyler Brooks, 1st place in the long jump, Mason Bryan, 1st place in the boys long jump, 2nd place in the triple jump, Ross Kalina 1st place in the triple jump, 2nd place in the long and Alex Guitierrez, 2nd place in discus.

In the Irion County meet Friday, the varsity girls placed 1st in the 4X200 relay with Brooks coming in first on the 200m dash. Haley Smith got 1st on the hurdles,
