The Winters Lady Blizzards split district games this past week, defeating Eldorado at home and dropping a close game to Christoval on the road.

On Tuesday, the Lady Blizzards shut down the Eldorado Lady Eagles, 44-13. In the first quarter, both teams suffered from holiday-lag, as Winters only managed to score six points to five for Eldorado. Then, however, the Lady Blizzards woke up and outscored Eldorado, 38-8, over the next three quarters. Monique Carrillo had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Cha-Cha Lovelace had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Karlee Busher hauled in 13 rebounds and had three steals.

On Friday, Winters traveled to Christoval, losing to the first place Lady Cougars, 40-32, in a hard fought battle. The Lady Blizzards jumped out to an early first quarter lead, 13-7, behind eight points from Carrillo. In the second period, Christoval outscored Winters, 13-9, cutting Winters’ lead to 22-20 at halftime. In the third period, Christoval took its first lead of the game, outscoring the Lady Blizzards, 7-4, to make the score 27-26 going into the final period. In the 4th quarter, the Lady Cougars were able to pull away for the 40-32 win. Carrillo had 16 points and eight rebounds. Busher had six points and seven rebounds. Aimee Green pulled in eight rebounds.

The Lady Blizzards are now 15-10 on the season and 2-2 in District 7-2A play. Winters is currently tied for 3rd place with Ozona.

In JV girls action, the JV Lady Blizzards picked up their first district win, 33-28, over Christoval’s JV. Miranda Rodriguez led the way with 15 points, while Jezebel Gonzalez had 10 points. The Lady Blizzards JV is now 5-8 on the season and 1-2 in district.

This week, Winters faced Miles at home on Tuesday and then travel to Irion County on Friday to wrap up the first half of district play.
