The Texas Bombers 9U Little League Baseball Team will be headed to the Texas Teen-Age Baseball 9U Tournament in Colorado City the week of July 24, after playing a 12-0 undefeated season.

Head Coach Colby Grimes, said his team, with players ranging from 5-9 years old, is up for the challenge and will be working hard leading up to the tournament. The team is part of the Ballinger Youth Athletic Association.

The Bombers won first place following a game with the Miles Dawgs on Tuesday, June 20, which capped off their undefeated season. This is the third year in a row that the Bombers have made it to the state tournament. Last year they won third place in the state and the prior year, they placed fifth.

Grimes said his assistant coaches Gabe Cuellar and Jose Zavala, really helped pull the team together this season.

“We teach the boys if you want something bad enough you have got to set goals,” Grimes said. “Our team motto is ‘stay hungry and stay humble,’

And the kids have taken that to heart.”

Grimes said the team is in good shape “talent wise.”

“I think we’ve got kids who want this enough and will work hard over the next two weeks,” Grimes said. “We are going to be practicing two or three hours a day a few days a week.”

Grimes commended the parents for their dedication.

“We have a good group of parents and everyone does their part,” Grimes said. “It makes it a lot of fun when you have good parents and this year it has been smooth sailing.”

Grimes grew up in Olfen and played Little League baseball in Ballinger when he was a kid.
