BROWNWOOD- The Ballinger Bearcat 7 on 7 football squad traveled to the Brownwood State Qualifying Tournament Friday to try and qualify one last time for the state tournament in College Station June 29-30. Unfortunately Ballinger’s lack of experience outweighed their depth in the tournament.

Ballinger would begin the tournament playing a Coleman team that only had nine players present. A slow start in the game would doom Ballinger as they were never able to make up their halftime deficit of 20-6. They would go on to lose the game 33-27.

A second game match up against 4A power Graham was a game that Ballinger would have liked to have won, even if they did not need to for tournament play. Unfortunately Ballinger’s lack of experience shone the most against the upperclassman heavy Steers. The final score of the contest was 53-12 as Ballinger had limited answers for the offensive attack of Graham.

Going into the final match up against Merkel the pool would already be decided with the Badgers already defeating both Coleman and Graham. Ballinger would use the opportunity to let their youth get even more experience in a 19-14 defeat.

Ballinger had four freshmen, five sophomores, five juniors and three seniors compete in Brownwood. The playing time against high level competition is a tremendous opportunity for growth with the amount of young players getting out there and competing for the Bearcats this season.
