The Lady Blizzards continued to struggle in district play, as the first half of district came to a close. Winters lost at Miles and at home to Irion County to fall to 0-6 in district and 13-12 on the season.

The Lady Blizzards continued to struggle in district play, as the first half of district came to a close. Winters lost at Miles and at home to Irion County to fall to 0-6 in district and 13-12 on the season.  

“We are in a very tough district!," said Coach Val Acree.  "I think Forsan, Christoval and Irion County all have shots to make it to the region tournament.”

            On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Lady Blizzards traveled to Miles and came up short, 32-19. Monique Carrillo had nine points and 18 rebounds for Winters. Karlee Busher had nine rebounds. On Friday, the Lady Blizzards hosted the Lady Hornets of Irion County, who have been ranked as high as #10 in the state Class 2A rankings, and were defeated 62-30. Aimee Green had nine points, while Christy Kruse and Monique Carrillo had seven and six respectively. Karlee Busher also had eight rebounds.

            In JV action, the Lady Blizzards split last week. On Tuesday, Winters defeated Miles’ JV, 34-15, Marley Smith had 19 points, while Shelby Gray had six. On Friday, the Lady Blizzards fell to Irion County’s JV, 43-30. Shelby Gray had 10 points, while Skylar Lee had six. The JV Lady Blizzards are 3-3 in district play and 12-6 on the season.

          In junior hig action, the Lady Breezes split with Miles' JH teams. The seventh grade Lady Breezes won, 26-11. Alyssara Rodriguez had eight points. Tori Campos, Keeley Zachary, Myra Ochoa all had four, while McKenzie Ventress, Saleen Jalomo and Ashton New had two. The seventh grade Lady Breezes are now 3-2 on the season. The eighth grade Lady Breezes lost to Miles' eighth grade 27-18. After trailing by as many as 14 points, the Lady Breezes fought back to get as close as 20-18. Querstin Lara had six points. Sugar Hunter and Hailey Renfro had four points, while Araceli Reyes and Megan Tarr had two points a piece. The eighth grade Lady Breezes are now 1-4 on the season.

This week the JH Lady Breezes hosted Irion County on Monday. Tuesday is an open date for the Lady Blizzards and on Friday they will travel to Forsan to start the second half of district play.
