Last week Ballinger hosted their annual basketball tournament and despite falling to Ozona and Merkel the Lady Cats were able to close out the tournament with a finishing win against Merkel.

Against Ozona, in a great showing, Bryla Perkins scored 10 points, but this was not enough as Ballinger fell 45-37. Ozona locked down their lead in the third quarter on a three-pointer.

 

At the end of the first half, Ballinger Lady Cats varsity led 20-17 on the strength of a 14-3 run. But this wasn't enough to overcome Ozona 's 28 points in the final two quarters of the game. With a total of 32 fouls, Ballinger was on the attack over the course of the game.

Perkins found success all over the court for Ballinger, making 60 percent (3-for-5) of shots attempted while also sinking 50 percent (4-for-8) of free throws attempted.

 

Sydney Bowman made it into double digits, scoring 10 points for Ballinger (5-for-13). Also helping the effort for Ballinger were Kinlee Bowman (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), Brenda Martinez (4 points, 1 rebound), Lauren Landers (3 points), Haley Matschek (2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal), and Kinley Gray (2 points, 3 rebounds).

 

Ballinger finished the game with 38 rebounds (12 offensive and 26 defensive) and three steals.

 

Sydney Bowman put nine points on the scoreboard but Ballinger fell to Merkel 50-37.

Even though Ballinger Lady Cats varsity added 17 points in the final quarter, they failed to make a comeback. The score was a sign of possible things to come for the Lady Cats.

Making 100 percent (4-for-4) of free throws attempted, Bowman had a great game from the line for Ballinger.

Also helping the effort for Ballinger were Kinley Gray (9 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals), Bryla Perkins (8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals), Jessica Castleberry (5 points, 3 rebounds), and Brenda Martinez (3 points, 2 rebounds). Guerrero was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up four rebounds and two steals.

 

Ballinger finished the game with 24 rebounds (11 offensive and 13 defensive) and 10 steals.

 

The final contest against Bangs Bryla Perkins, along with Kinley Gray would lead the team with 8 points, while Perkins would also lead the team with an outstanding 15 total rebounds. The final score would be in the Lady Cat's favor as they were victorious 39-27.

 

Also contributing for Ballinger were Lexus Gonzalez (6 points, 4 rebounds) and Brenda Martinez.

 

Ballinger finished the game with 47 rebounds (26 offensive / 21 defensive) and 11 steals.

 

Ballinger’s next two contests are on the road against Bangs, Tuesday, December 13 and at Abilene Cooper Friday, December 16.
