Cha-Cha Lovelace had 14 points, while Monique Carrillo and Christy Kruse had eight apiece. Aimee Green had an all-around game with four points, nine assists and 10 rebounds. Karlee Busher dominated the boards with 14 rebounds. Then, the Lady Blizzards played in the Albany Invitational Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1-3. On Thursday, Winters opened the tournament with a 44-27 loss to Seymour, a game that was a lot closer than the score, as the Lady Blizzards only trailed by six points going into the fourth quarter. Seymour’s size eventually wore down Winters. Monique Carrillo had 15 points and nine rebounds. Later on Thursday, Winters defeated former district rival and tournament host, Albany, 44-31. Monique Carrillo had 12 points and nine rebounds, while Aimee Green had eight points, five rebounds and five steals. On Friday, the Lady Blizzards defeated the Early Lady Longhorns, 36-32. Early had defeated Seymour on Thursday. Aimee Green tied her own school record, as she made six 3-pointers enroute to 19 points. Karlee Busher pulled down seven rebounds, while Cha-Cha Lovelace shined on defense with five steals and had five points. On Saturday, Winters pulled out a 35-34 overtime win over the Munday Mogulettes. Aimee Green had 13 points, while the Lady Blizzards outrebounded Munday 44-36, as K’Lee Lindley had eight rebounds, while Monique Carrillo and Karlee Busher had seven apiece. In the third place game of the tournament, the Lady Blizzards fell to Abilene Wylie’s JV, 35-25. Aimee Green had 11 points and four steals, while Karlee Busher hauled in nine rebounds. The Lady Blizzards have now surpassed last year’s win total of seven and are currently 9-4 on the season. They hosted the Grape Creek Lady Eagles on Tuesday and will host the Eden Lady Bulldogs on Friday in their final two games before starting district play on December 16 at home against Forsan. The JV Lady Blizzards competed in the Robert Lee Varsity Basketball Tournament and were defeated by Eden’s, San Angelo Cornerstone’s and Bronte’s varsity teams. Freshmen Skylar Lee and Aliciea Reyna were mentioned by Lady Blizzards’ JV coach Lyndsie Schur as having played well against very tough competition. The JV Lady Blizzards are now 6-3 on the season and will play Grape Creek’s JV on Tuesday, and then compete in the Grape Creek JV Tournament on Thursday and Saturday.
Last Monday, the JH Lady Breezes hosted Ozona’s JH teams and split the games. The 7th grade Lady Breezes won and exciting overtime game, 22-18, against the 7th grade Lady Lions. Tori Campos had 11 points, while McKenzie Ventress had five. Cristina Aragon, Saleen Jalomo and Keeley Zachary all added two points. The 7th grade Lady Breezes are now 2-0. In the 8th grade game, the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Breezes, 20-12. Hailey Renfro had six points for the Lady Breezes, while Megan Tarr, Querstin Lara and Kailtyn Fuentes all had two. The Lady Breezes traveled to Eldorado on Monday to face the JH Lady Eagles. Coach Valton Acree assisted with this report.
