Senator Huffines painted a rosy picture of school vouchers for Texas’ school children. Sadly, he omits evidence that Texas’ charter schools, a school choice option, deliver nearly the same results on standardized tests as do Texas’ local public schools.

I understand why many families desire to remove their children from failing public schools. However, when placing their child in a new school, charter or private, they will be expected in some cases to dedicate time and resources to the school on behalf of their child’s education. In most cases, if all parents dedicated time and resources to their current local public school, there would be no reason to abandon it.
