Virginia Castillo

Winters - Virginia T Castillo, 104, of Winters passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022.

She was born April 6, 1917 in Stamford to Pete and Nina Torres. She moved to Winters at a young age where she remained until her passing. She attended school at a country school house in Runnels County. She married Pedro Castillo on June 26, 1944 in Ballinger, and he preceded her in death October 31, 1987. Virginia was a housewife who was always active. She loved to babysit her grandchildren, cooking, and dancing. She was a gardener and loved her rose bushes, and had a love for animals, especially her birds.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Pedro Castillo, son Rudy Torres, Sr., brother Lupe Torres, Sr., and sister Lola Ortega.

She is survived by four children: Gloria Lujano and husband Lupe of Winters, Leroy Castillo and wife Mary Hellen of Waxahachie, Elma Muniz of Winters, and Ray Castillo and wife Sylvia of Austin; 17 grandchildren: Ronnie Lujano, Gilbert Lujano, Chris Lujano, Chris Castillo, James Castillo, Malissa Castillo Smith, Eva Ortiz Finney, Richard Ortiz, Tina Ortiz Baker, Adam Jaime, Yvonne Jaime, Rudy Torres, Jr., Ricky Torres, Hector Torres, Rachael Torres, Juanita Torres, and John Castillo; as well as number great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Winters Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with burial following at Lakeview Cemetery.
