Karen Joyce Carter
San Angelo - Karen Joyce Carter, 54, of San Angelo died Monday, April 12, 2021 in a San Angelo hospital. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Winters with Pastor Al Brakke officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.
Karen was born August 21, 1966 in Abilene to Frank Thomas and Ruby Emma (Stephan) Carter. She graduated from Winters High School in 1984 and went on to earn her Respiratory Therapy Certification. She worked for Hendrick Medical Center, Baylor Scott and White, North Runnels Hospital, then spent several years as a traveling Respiratory Therapist around the United States. She loved her medical profession as well as helping others and continuing to learn more about her field of work.
Karen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Winters and was a devoted listener to all of St. John's worship services and daily devotions on Facebook. She was an avid reader of all types of books and loved checking out books from the public libraries.
She is survived by her mother Ruby Emma (Stephan) Carter of Winters; siblings, Rhonda Neal and husband Mike of Winters, John Carter and wife Kim of San Angelo and Ruby M. Stephan and partner MJ Stephan of Dripping Springs; nieces and nephews, Jacob Goetz of Abilene, Stephen Goetz of Plainview, Ashely Parker and husband Josh of Tuscola and daughters, MaKinley and Adley and Blake Williams of Denton.
Karen was preceded in death by her father Frank Carter and longtime special friend Freddy Richards.
Memorial donations, in Karen's memory, may be made to Winters Public Library or St. John's Lutheran Church – Technology Fund.
