Ben Flanagan and Charlie Poteet both from Ballinger were sponsored by the Runnels Soil and Water Conservation District to attend the Brigades Ranch Camp in June at Santa Anna, Texas. Shelby Santos from Winters was also sponsored by the district to attend the Buckskin Brigade in Santa Anna, Texas.

Texas Brigades is a series of seven youth leadership camps centered on natural resources and wildlife conservation.

Each camp is limited to 30 participants and is an intense resource-focused leadership development program for youth 13-17 years old. The programs, each with a single featured theme, include quail, deer, bass, redfish, waterfowl and ranching.

The goal of these camps is to equip youth with the resources and conviction they will need to make a positive, informed difference in conservation and land stewardsip throughout their lives.

Applications and information are available at www.texasbrigades.org/applications Deadline for applications is in March each year.

Runnels SWCD feels that programs such as the Range Management Workshop and Texas Brigades are a valuable tool to extend our youths education and are therefore willing to help sponsor youth to these workshops. If you know of a youth age 13-17 that would be interested in any of these workshops, please contact Runnels SWCD at 2000 Hutchins Avenue in Ballinger or call 365-3415 ext. 3.
