Who would have thought back on November 11, 1922, when the first Armistice Day Celebration was held at St. Joseph’s in Rowena, that ninety-seven years later the tradition would still be alive and well?  Although the name has been changed to The Annual Fall Festival, the spirit and meaning behind the celebration basically remain the same.   With the theme “Faith of Our Fathers:, parishioners will host the 97th Annual Fall Festival on Sunday, November 10, 2019.

  The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a flag raising to honor all veterans, POW-MIA’s  and U. S. Armed Forces deployed throughout the world.

  A mid-day meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. featuring Rowena style German Sausage, turkey, dressing and trimmings.  The meal will also include homemade desserts and tea or coffee.  Adult plates - $10.00; Children (10 yrs. and under) $5.00.  Plates-To-Go can be purchased for $10.00 at either a Drive Thru or Walk Up window.

   Parishioners will be making 8,000 lbs. of sausage for the meal and for sale (uncooked) @$5.00 in five pound increments as long as supplies last.

   A variety of Children and Adult games will begin at 11:30 a.m. and last until 3:00 p.m.

   The Country Store will be opened throughout the day featuring needle work items, home-made baked items, canned goods, plants and home decorations.  There will be a “Faith” section as well as a “Christmas” section.

   The live auction will begin at 1:00 p.m. with merchandise donated by parishioners, merchants and friends.  The cotton auction will begin at 2:00 p.m.

   A Sausage Sandwich Supper will begin at 4:30 p.m..  Sandwiches will be $4.00 and includes tea.

   There will be Handicapped parking, a shuttle bus and seating assistance for the meal for those with special needs.

   Mass for festival workers or anyone who would like to attend will be at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9 at St. Joseph’s Church, with Sunday Mass scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

   General Festival Chairmen are Joseph and Dena Kalina; Co-Chairmen are Marshal and Martha Lange.  Kitchen Food Coordination Chairmen are Glen and Cheryl Smetana; Co Chairmen are Howard and Denise Beimer; Worker Coordination Chairmen are Doug and Stephanie Hite; Co-Chairmen are John and Karen Hoelscher.

   Parishioners of St. Joseph extend a warm welcome to everyone as we remember and give thanks for the “Faith of Our Fathers”.

   All activities will take place in the parish hall and on church grounds.
