It took Autumn Flowers a few moments to realize what happened late Wednesday night in the Jim Wells County Fair Show Arena.

The first runner-up had just been named, leaving her as the only contestant left to take the crown. She looked around in disbelief and quickly began tearing up as she was officially declared the new Miss Jim Wells County.

She wiped away tears as she took her first walk with her crown and sash. For the Orange Grove High School senior, winning the crown was a longtime dream finally realized.

Flowers had been in the annual pageant twice before and finished as the first runner-up each time. She was almost at a loss for words this time as she wore the crown and took photos with friends afterwards.

“My jaw dropped… number one,” Flowers said. “Two, my heart just started racing. I can’t explain it. Finally taking home the win, honestly, it made me cry. I’m so happy.”

Flowers is a senior at Orange Grove High School and the daughter of A.J. and Jennifer Flowers. She is also a member of Orange Grove FFA.

Mariel Zambrano was named runner-up in the pageant and Gabriella Reynado was named second runner-up.

Zambrano was also named Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic.

Flowers won Most Talented and won the ad sales contest.
