BROWNWOOD - Saturday will be a time to cruise on over to Greenleaf Cemetery for the Second Annual Father’s Day Car Show from 1-3 p.m. when the Heartland Cruisers will be on hand with classic cars on display for all to enjoy.
The event is for those who want to honor their dads, grandads or any guy who is a gear-head by nature. And it is a great way to spend the day before Father’s Day celebrating the men we know, love and remember.
Just take a drive to Greenleaf Cemetery located at 2701 Highway 377 South - there is no entry fee to enjoy the show.
The cars will be provided by the Heartland Cruisers Car Club and organizer Jeanette Buris said there should be from 10 and 15 sweet rides on display on Saturday.
“The car show is going to be awesome this year,” said Buris, who also volunteers at Greenleaf Cemetery. “I hope we have enough room for all the cars.”
Visitors can come in check at the cars and enjoy complimentary peanuts, Dr. Pepper and water, just like last year.
There will be entertainment via Sun Duo, with the music of Daniel Graham and Debra Mathis plus at 2 p.m. there will be a Race Car Pinata for the children to break open at no charge.
Greenleaf board member Freda Day said having a car show at the cemetery is quite a fitting tribute to these car-loving guys especially those that are buried and memorialized at Greenleaf, like her grandfather and her father, Bobby Day.
“It’s also a fun thing for fathers (and mothers) to bring their children to,” Day said. “We want to encourage anyone and everyone to come spend Father’s Day Eve (Saturday) with us. It’s going to be a pleasant, easy-going, stress-free afternoon. While you’re there, drive through the cemetery and find a little history.”
The car show is sponsored by Brownwood Funeral Home, Davis Morris Funeral Home and Heartland Funeral Home and Keep Brownwood Beautiful has also provided help and support for this and all of the fundraising projects at Greenleaf Cemetery.
"I want to thank all of the community sponsors throughout the last 18 months who have helped put Greenleaf Cemetery back on stronger financial footing," said Greenleaf Cemetery Board President Steve Harris. "A man by the name of Harry Cline said 'you can tell the kind of town by the way the cemetery looks.'" I would encourage everyone to come out and see the beauty of the cemetery and how hard everyone has worked the last 18 months to show it the respect that it deserves."
