Girls Scouts honors area women

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains held its annual Women of Distinction ceremony last week, honoring four local women for their leadership and service to the community.

Denise Mattson, executive director of school support services for the Lubbock Independent School District, was given the Discover Award. The category honoree demonstrates exceptional understanding of herself and her values. She uses this knowledge in every way possible to help girls and women explore and discover themselves and their world.

The Connect Award was given to Michelle McCord, superintendent of Frenship Independent School District. The recipient of this award demonstrates exceptional leadership in connecting with others to create solutions in the community and beyond to make the world a better place.

Kim Davis, community relations manager of Mosaic, was honored with the Take Action Award. The recipient of this award serves communities and advances the quality of life and opportunities vital to the development and support of women leadership.

Margarita Olivarez, a lifelong Girl Scout, troop leader and community volunteer was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, given each year to a woman who has dedicated her life to supporting women leadership.
