BALLINGER - Once again it is festival time in Runnels County with the 43rd Annual Texas State Festival of Ethnic Cultures and Arts and Crafts Show Saturday, April 28. The festival has grown over the years and has become one of the most popular attractions held in Ballinger each year.

BALLINGER - Once again it is festival time in Runnels County with the 43rd Annual Texas State Festival of Ethnic Cultures and Arts and Crafts Show Saturday, April 28. The festival has grown over the years and has become one of the most popular attractions held in Ballinger each year.

The fest starts with the parade at 10 a.m. followed by music at 11 a.m. and activities all day long.

The fest started with seven cultures and each culture had a booth with authentic food prepared from original recipes handed down through the ages. Over the years, more cultures were represented and this year a variety of food cultures will be represented German, Italian, Mexican, Czech, Texan, American and African American..

Since the early years the fest earned state recognition. In 1978, the fest became known by its official copyrighted name the “Texas State Festival of Ethnic Cultures and Arts and Crafts Show.”

Ethnic Fest always includes a variety of activities including the Colorado River Bikefest and a parade, booths with a variety of foods, arts and crafts as well as activities for children and music.

In addition, the Lone Star Market will be be set up at the Wool and Mohair building and the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild Miniature Art Show will be held at the Do-Art Studio on 9th Street.

Registration is underway for the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, which is open to kids of all ages. Registration is $45 per team, and forms are available at each of the Ballinger schools or at the chamber office.

Registration is also underway for the 2018 Dog Show and entries are $10 per category for Prettiest Dog, Ugliest Dog, Most Talented and Best in Show.

A car show will also be featured as well as a pie baking contest. All of the registration forms are available on the City of Ballinger website at https://ballinger-tx.com/.

This year there will be a Beer and Wine Garden set up in the plaza off of 7th Street.
