On Saturday, March 17, there were reports of a possible sighting of Gabriel Padron in San Antonio, but further investigation revealed it was a false alarm.

Padron has been missing from Ballinger since Feb. 9 and was last seen at the home at 1205 Largent Ave. where he had lived for six months.

On Saturday, a woman posted on social media a cell phone screen shot of a man who looked like Padron, so Ballinger police began to investigate. The man, according to the post, was found in front of a restaurant and did not know his name or where he lived.

Ballinger Police Chief Stan Maresch said he reached out to Padron's family to see if they believed the photo was of their missing relative.

"The family said it was not him," Maresh said adding that the man in the photo had a tattoo and Padron was not known to have a tattoo.

Meanwhile, the family remains heartsick and extremely concerned about the 74-year old, who has severe health issues. He is a brittle diabetic and was showing signs of dementia before his disappearance.

Last week, the family announced a $1,000 reward for information on Padron's whereabouts.

Padron was last wearing khaki pants, grey tennis shoes, a black jacket and a cowboy hat.

Since he was reported missing Maresh said a ground and air searches between Ballinger and the Colorado River have been conducted.

A Sliver Alert was not issued because Padron has not been medically diagnosed with dementia.

The case has been reported to the Texas Rangers and additional air searches have been conducted.

The Ballinger Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, Runnels County Sheriff’s Office and the Winters Police Department participated in the search. Ballinger police received several calls the day he was reported missing referencing sightings of Padron locally, in Clyde and as far away as Troupe Texas, near Tyler.
