RUNNELS COUNTY - A 21-year-old Runnels County man was arrested last week and charged with burglary following reports of two break ins in Rowena, officials with the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Jason Pimentel, 21, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 8 following reports of burglaries in Rowena, Sheriff Carl Squyres reported.
The RCSO began investigating the case after receiving a call from a Rowena resident regarding a burglary on George Street on Jan. 3. When officials arrived at the home, the residents told investigators that a man had come to their door carrying a gun and accusing the resident of burglary.
The residents gave a description of the vehicle, and investigators later found the suspect vehicle on School Street. Investigators went to that residence and were told by those residents that they had been victims of a burglary but had not reported it.
“We went back to the home on George Street during that investigation and we found several guns that were taken in the alleged burglary on School Street,” Squyres reported.
On Monday, Jan. 8, investigators were called to a second burglary on School Street in Rowena. The homeowner told officers that he caught the suspect in the home and that he fled the scene.
Investigators later discovered that Pimentel had allegedly stolen a bicycle from a Ballinger residence, road it to Rowena where he reportedly went to burglarize the home on School Street.
Deputies searched the area and finally found Pimentel hiding in a cellar at a home about a block away from School Street.
He was arrested and charged with burglary and remains in custody at the Runnels County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
Squyres said the items taken in the burglary included five firearms (rifles and long guns), a Sony PlayStation IV, a controller and games. All of the items were recovered by the RCSO.
The investigation continues into the burglaries and subsequent arrests and charges are expected in the case.
