ABILENE – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Abilene Driver License Office will be closed Friday, Aug.18, and Monday, Aug. 21, for repairs and maintenance to the public areas of the building. The office in Ballinger will be open for business.
ABILENE – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Abilene Driver License Office will be closed Friday, Aug.18, and Monday, Aug. 21, for repairs and maintenance to the public areas of the building. The office is expected to reopen to the public at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22. The Abilene office is located at 4649 S. 1st St.
If customers need to visit an office during the this time, they are encouraged to visit the Anson Driver License Office, located at 1110 W. Court Plaza; the Sweetwater Driver License Office, 600 NW Georgia; the Ballinger Driver License Office, 602 Strong Ave at the Runnels County Court Annex Building; the Eastland Driver License Office, 1002 Lago Vista; or the Coleman Driver License Office, 112 N. Concho – open Monday, Thursday and Friday. DPS encourages customers to check the DPS website for additional information about specific driver license offices, http://www.dps.texas.gov/administration/driver_licensing_control/rolodex/search.asp.
Many Texans are eligible to skip the trip to a driver license office altogether and instead take advantage of online services for driver license/ID card renewals, duplicates or address changes by visiting Texas.gov. Customers can also renew by phone at 1-866-357-3639. The eligibility requirements for phone renewal and online renewal are the same. The fee is the same for online, in-person and telephone renewals.
Important reminder: Customers may renew their Driver License/Texas ID card one year early prior to their expiration date, which allows them to choose a convenient time that fits their schedule.
