BALLINGER - The Ballinger Area Chamber of Commerce has selected Conrad Insurance Agency as the first Business of the Month.

BALLINGER - the Ballinger Area Chamber of Commerce has selected Conrad Insurance Agency as the first Business of the Month.

Conrad Insurance Agency, owned by Michael Conrad, offers a variety of products from Farmers Insurance including home, auto, commercial, business and Conrad also offers financial services with Farmers.

Conrad took over the Farmers agency after Jim Hatler, who was a Farmers agent for 40 years in Winters, retired in February. Hatler is now working part time as an independent agent.

The agency has a new home at 630 Hutchings Ave. in Ballinger and is open from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday. Hatler’s long time staff member Abie Williams, worked for him for 30 years, has officially moved to the Ballinger office.

Conrad was previously an agent for Farmers from 2004-07 and then worked in the San Angelo office training and managing agents until 2015. He has owned his own agency since then.

He said Farmers contacted him when Hatler announced his retirement.

“They called and offered me to buy into it,” Conrad explained. “I knew what to expect having had experience with Farmers.”

Conrad said he is officially open for business at the Ballinger office and welcomes clients old and new.

"We are open for business and we can offer anything that clients need,” Conrad said.

Conrad grew up in San Angelo graduated from San Angelo Central in 1993. He met his wife the former Kim Cook in San Angelo, but she has family in Ballinger. The Conrads have four children, Ian, Kaylee, Addie and Aidyn and have lived in Ballinger since 2000.

“We are here to take care of you,” Conrad said. “We pride ourselves on customer service and with the backing of Farmers we take care of business when you need us."

The Ballinger Chamber will hold a drawing for Business of the Month on the second Tuesday of each month. Businesses who are members in good standing will be eligible. The honoree each month will receive a banner, a flag and special promotion via social media by the chamber each month.

Executive Director Tammie Virden said Business of the Month was started as a benefit to members.

“It is an added benefit to our members,” Virden said.
