Celebrate 50 years

WINTERS - The Winters High School Class of 1967 will host a 50 year reunion at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24 at Casa Cabana Restaurant at 1032 N. Main St. in Winters. A reception and visitation will be held after lunch at the Rock Hotel at 300 W. Dale St. until 5 p.m. Friends, families and other class members are invited to attend.

Get your linens and bling

BALLINGER - The Ballinger Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will host a linen sale in the lobby of Keel Drug from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 27.. Items include sheet sets, bamboo and Memory Foam pillows, blankets, Yeti cup accessories, semi-precious jewelry, scarves and many more items. All proceeds benefit the auxiliary.

Community Blood Drive

BALLINGER - There will be a community blood drive held by United Blood Services from 8 a.m. to noon o Sunday, July 16 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church Hall at 602 n. 6th Street. The blood supply is low during the summer, so all eligible donors are encouraged to give blood. Each unit of blood helps up to three people. The process takes less than an hour. Walk-ins are welcome, but donors are encouraged to make an appointment by calling Rick Sonnenberg at 325-718-8445 or via email at Donors are encouraged to make appointments as soon as possible so UBS can prepare for the drive.

Rowena BBQ Cookoff

ROWENA - The Rowena Lions Club will hold their 12th Annual Meet You At The Square BBQ Cook Off in downtown Rowena on Saturday, July 1. The town historical marker dedication will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by a children's parade at 11 a.m. The cost to enter a team in the cook off is $75. Items in the contest include brisket, ribs, chicken, beans and margaritas. Trophies for first through third place will be presented in each food category. There will be a $350 overall grand prize, $200 for overall second place and $100 for overall third place and $100 for first place in each food category. The Rowena 4H Club will be selling barbecue sandwiches and refreshments throughout the day. Barrio Reunion Mardi Gras 2017

Everyone is welcome to attend the Eighth Annual Barrio Reunion Mardi Gras 2017 in Ballinger, June 24 at St. Mary's Parish Center, 606 N. 6th Street. The meal and social will be from 4-6 p.m. and the dance will be from 8-11:30 p.m. The auction will be from 6-7 pm. and the introduction of families will be from 7-8 p.m. The cost for the meal and dance is $10 per person. REC Camp coming

BALLINGER - First Baptist Church will host REC Camp for children ages five to 11 years old, from 9 a.m. to noon, June 26-30 at the Family Life Center, 408 N. 8th Street. Children will enjoy many activities throughout the week.

Family Fun Night

BALLINGER - Make plans to attend "Family Fun Night" from 6-8 p.m. every Sunday night at 7th Street Baptist Church at 1200 N 7th St. Each week the event will have a different theme. The Summer Family Fun series begins Sunday, June 18 with "Touch a Truck." Family Fun Night is scheduled for June 25 and "Old Fashion 4th" is set for July 2.

Color Time and Knitting

WINTERS - Color Time and Knitting sessions will be held from noon to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Winters Public Library. Participants for Color Time can select project from coloring books at the library and the colored pencils will be provided. Relax to music while coloring and may come and go at their convenience. Knitting session participants are asked to bring their yarn. Those who are just learning, may get help from an instructor.

Visit the local art gallery

BALLINGER - Make plans to come by the Art Gallery located in the lobby of the Cook Professional Building at 804 Hutchins Ave. in downtown Ballinger. Visitors will see a variety of paintings on display by a featured artist of the month plus other art from members of the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild at the Do-Art Studio. The exhibit and sale times are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and varied times on Friday.

Meals on Wheels

BALLINGER - Do you want to do something to help your fellow community members? Volunteers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Plus program in Ballinger. Winters Library news

WINTERS - The Winters Public Library has public access Internet computers and free WiFi. The library is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Screenings offered

WINTERS - Runnels County residents may obtain diabetes and blood pressure screenings at the Winters Public Library from 9 a.m. to noon the third Wednesday of each month. Do not eat before the screening for the best results. The library is closed at that time, so those wishing to obtain a screening must enter through the back door of the library o Grant Street. For the best results for this test, do not eat two hours before screening.

RCHC books available

CASA volunteers wanted

The Children's Advocacy Center of Tom Green County, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seeking volunteers. Currently CASA serves 60 percent of the children in foster care. Visit Friendly Neighbors

The Texas Extension Education Agency “Friendly Neighbors” invites everybody in the Runnels County area who is interested in learning about cooking, gardening, arts and crafts and other useful subjects to meetings at 2 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month (except during the summer). Meetings will alternate between the Runnels County Extension Office on the corner of south 7th Street and Sealy Ave. in Ballinger and the Winters Public Library at 120 N. Main St. in Winters. Masonic Lodge meeting

The Ballinger Masonic Lodge #643 meets on the first Monday evening of each month at 7 p.m. at the lodge at 500 North Broadway. A meal will be served following each meeting. All District 105 Masons and those in the area, are encouraged to attend and meet for fellowship.

Carnegie Library hours

The Carnegie Library in Ballinger is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The library is currently closed Saturday and Sunday. Children's Story Hour and Crafts is at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday. The Shakespeare Room is available for rent for events. In addition the Mary Sykes Auditorium is for rent for weddings and banquets.

Recycling Center Hours

The City of Ballinger’s Recycling Center, located at South 7th Street and Sealy Avenue, is open from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday. The recycling center is open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Saturday, the recycling center is open from 8 a.m. to noon.

WIC open to many incomes and families

Women Infants and Children, (WIC) located at 706 Strong Ave. in Ballinger is open from 7 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. WIC is closed every third and fourth Monday of each month. Phone 325-365-5925.

Wingate Masonic Lodge meetings

The Wingate Masonic Lodge will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m on Saturday, May 27 at the lodge in Wilmeth. The Wingate Masonic Lodge 1042 A.F. & A.M., meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month, at the Wilmeth Lodge.
