COLLEGE STATION - Youth from Runnels County competed in the events at the State 4-H Roundup held June 5-8 on the campus of Texas A & M University in College Station.

COLLEGE STATION - Youth from Runnels County competed in the events at the State 4-H Roundup held June 5-8 on the campus of Texas A & M University in College Station. Throughout the event, Runnels County teams placed high, with the entomology team being ranked number one in the state.

"It was a fun and competitive week for Runnels Co 4-H and I am extremely proud of how our youth competed and represented our community," said Runnels County Extension Agent and sponsor Garrett Cline.

On Tuesday, the Leaders 4 Life Team and the Livestock Skill A Thon Team kicked off activities for Runnels County 4-H.

At the end of the day the Leaders 4 Life group from Runnels County was named fourth high team, while the intermediate Livestock Skill-A-Thon team finished second in the state. Skill-A-Thon team member Avery Flanagan was also named high point individual.

The Foods and Nutrition quiz bowl team also competed on Tuesday. That night at the assembly the award winners were recognized as well as two Runnels County seniors who received scholarships, Macy Lange and Cole Cave.

On Wednesday, the livestock judging team competed at Pearce Pavilion on TAMU's campus.

The entomology team was named first in the state during the event. The team which included Cole Cave, Ryan Matschek and Jon Binder taking home individual honors of second, eighth and ninth respectively. Cole Zentner was also on the team, and was recognized along with the rest of the team that night during the awards ceremony.

'McKenzie Arrott was recognized as a scholarship recipient along with Kolton Looka, Cole Cave and Macey Lange.

Finally on Thursday, several Runnels Co 4-Hers competed in the invitational livestock judging contest. Avery Flanagan was named eighth high individual in cattle judging. Runnels Co 4-H members, Macey Gerhart and Julia Williams also competed in the Food Show.
