BALLINGER - The second annual Justin Byler Memorial Run, Walk and Ride was a success, with numerous participants lining up early Memorial Day morning to make the trek, which started at the Ballinger High School parking lot.
The event, which raised more than  $3,000 last year, was organized by BHS graduate and veteran Chad McDuffee, who led the way for the run.
The event was held to honor William Justin Byler, who was killed in Iraq Oct. 31, 2005.

McDuffee said he had about 100 participants this year, in the event. "The 5K had a great turn out for the second year in a row," McDuffee said.
Byler has been honored by the community on multiple occassions including in February of 2011 when a portion of Highway 158 was dedicated as William Justin Byler Memorial Highway. All proceeds from the event, go to the Justin Byler Memorial Scholarship Fund.
"I would like to thank the community for coming out to support a local Gold Star family in the Bylers and showing that the community of Ballinger as well as surrounding communities mean it when they say they 'support the troops.'"
