BALLINGER – It is splish splash time again as the City of Ballinger prepares to open the city’s swimming pool on Friday, May 26, just in time for the beginning of summer.

Janet Wilson, who is the band director at Ballinger High School, will be returning as the pool manager this summer. She updated the Ballinger City Council on activities and events planned at the pool, during the last city council meeting held Monday, May. 1.

The regular schedule days of operation will be 1-5:45 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Parties may be scheduled from 8 to 10 p.m. on regularly scheduled days. The pool is closed on Mondays. Putt Putt hours are 2-9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Wilson told the council that the programs initiated last year like teen night and family night really increased attendance at the pool.

“By July we were having 125-175 at the pool for family night,” she said. “You came over the hill and there were people parking all the way up to the community center. It was great to see parents and grandparents and children there. It was wonderful to see.”

Wilson said Putt Putt also gained in popularity over last summer and she expects it to be thriving again this summer.

She will be hiring 10 guards for the summer, five from last season will be returning she said. All of the guard will take lifeguard training in Brownwood.

Family passes are now on sale at city hall. The cost is $100 for up to five family members and $1 each for additional family members. The pass covers all family members at Putt Putt and the pool during all open hours. Forms must be completed and the pass paid in full at city hall.
