RUNNELS COUNTY - A Winters man was arrested after wrecking a reported stolen vehicle and fleeing from law enforcement Monday, Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres reported.

A Winters man was arrested after wrecking a reported stolen vehicle and fleeing from law enforcement Monday, Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres reported.

Squyres said the vehicle was reported stolen from the 200 block of Pou Avenue in Ballinger and was spotted traveling north on Highway 83, south of Winters.

Squyres said a Department of Public Safety trooper and deputies from Runnels County attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver attempted to evade officers and turned on CR 355 and would later crash.

The driver, identified as Eddie Clint Johnson, Jr. attempted to flee on foot but was captured and placed under arrest.

Johnson, 29, was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, authorized use of a vehicle and two counts of forgery of a governmental instrument. Johnson was also charged with a parole violation and placed in custody at the Runnels County Jail with bonds totaling $80,000.  No bond was set for the parole violation.

Also arrested was Jonathan Thomas Castillo, 18, of Abilene. He was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, tamper or fabricate physical evidence, forgery of a governmental instrument and possession of marijuana under two ounces. He remains in custody at the Runnels County Jail on bonds totaling $61,000.

Merlinda Blanca Deleon, 29, of Abilene, was arrested for unauthorized use of a vehicle and was released on Tuesday after posting a $5,000 bond.
