Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres is urging citizens to join in the fight against crime by becoming associate members of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas.

Squyres said in a news release that he is responding to an increase number of citizens who want to assist law enforcement officials to fight crime.

Squyres stressed that the Sheriff’s Association of Texas is a non-profit organization and never solicits donations via phone.

“If you receive a solicitation by phone please contact the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office or the district or county attorney,” Squyres said.

Membership invitations will be going out in the mail to citizens in the coming weeks. When citizens become associate members, the Sheriff’s Association is able to provide critical training, technical resources and legislative support on key criminal justice issues which involves law enforcement officers across the state.

“During these economic times, the need for building a stronger public-private law enforcement partnership continues to escalate and programs such as this continue to grow in importance,” Squyres said. “I encourage every citizen receiving a membership appeal to consider joining forces with us by becoming an associate member. It is a valuable investment in our future.”

In addition, dues are used to support crime prevention and awareness programs, promote public safety, fight drug abuse, provides training for sheriffs and deputies and provides scholarships for children of law enforcement officers. All contributions are tax deductible.

“The Associate Membership Drive helps provide the funding which is vital to our mission of making our communities safer places to live, work and play,” Squyres said.

The associate membership program was created to provide citizens with an opportunity to lend their support to more effective law enforcement and to better help local sheriffs protect the lives and property of citizens.
