“We wish Ballinger ISD the best of luck in their search for a new AD," Jones said. "It is time for my family to explore other options and go a different direction. I appreciate Ballinger ISD allowing us the opportunity to be a head coach."

Jones, who replaced former coach Justin Wiley in 2015, posted a two-year record of 9-12, including two playoff appearances.

Jones was among 90 applicants who applied for the position after it opened in February of 2015.

Jones came to Ballinger from Plainview High School where he was assistant head coach for a year and-a-half. Prior to that, he was assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for Permian High School in Odessa. He was head coach at Denton Guyer High School from 2005-2008 and prior to that, was defensive coordinator at Brownwood High School for nine years.

BISD Superintendent Jeff Butts confirmed the resignation saying that Jones has told him that he will be moving his family back to Plainview.

Butts applauded Jones’ work with the athletes at BHS and said that the move came as somewhat of a surprise since the board had voted unanimously to extend Jones’ contract for another year at the March board meeting.

“I appreciate Coach Jones and his family coming to Ballinger very much,” Butts said. “He has worked extremely hard as has his coaching staff to get
