BALLINGER – The Carnegie Library of Ballinger is getting a bit of a facelift, both inside and out thanks to grant and memorial funds.

Currently, the Padilla Painting of San Angelo is painting the outside of the library. The inside of the library has already been painted. “We are paying for it all out of the Memorial Fund,” said Carla Campbell, president of the Carnegie Library Board.

Campbell said the board has applied for grants for new furnishings and to repair the mortar on the outside bricks.

There is project currently underway to bring the library bathrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“We got a grant for the bathrooms,” Campbell said. “We are hoping for a grant for furnishings – like comfortable chairs, shelving and a coffee bar and an area for teenagers to make the inside of the library more user friendly and inviting.”

Campbell stressed that the library operates entirely on fundraisers throughout the year.

The entire downstairs has been repainted as well as the Shakespeare Room. However, the board is waiting to start work on the auditorium until more grant funds can be accessed.
