BALLINGER – The Ballinger Memorial Hospital District and board, welcomed Dr. Alan Hardwicke and his wife Sarah to the community during a special reception held at the hospital clinic Wednesday, March 1.

Dr. Hardwicke is board certified in internal medicine and began working at the clinic in January 17. Members of the community, colleagues and staff members were on hand to welcome Hardwicke and his wife during the lunchtime reception.

He comes to Ballinger from San Angelo, where he has worked for the past 12 years at the Community Medical Associates clinic in private practice. Prior to that, he worked in private practice for 15 years in Abilene.

“To get someone of Dr. Hardwicke’s caliber and his wife Sarah, to come to Ballinger is wonderful for this community,” said Rhett Fricke, CEO and administrator of Ballinger Memorial Hospital District.

Hardwicke said he and his wife were “getting settled in,” and were very happy to be in Ballinger.

He said not only is he glad to be serving patients in Ballinger and Runnels County, but that his new location still allows him to take care of his long-time patients in San Angelo and Abilene.

Hardwicke said he also recognized the community’s need for a doctor.

“We really like the doctors here and there certainly was a need for another doctor,” Hardwicke said. “Now patients don’t have to travel to see an internal medicine doctor – you have one right here.”

He said he has been seeing patients who are suffering with more acute problems since he has been here.

His wife Sarah said she is excited to be in Ballinger as well.

“I like small towns,” she said. “Everyone is so friendly and you really have a good community here.”

Others who attended the reception, included Greg Schwertner, CEO of First National Bank of Ballinger.

“We are glad you are here,” Schwertner told Hardwicke.

Father Hubert Wade, who is retired from St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church, said he is now a patient.

“He is very thorough,” Wade said.

Hardwicke sees patients from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the clinic. He reiterated the fact that patients do not need to travel to see an internal medicine doctor.

“If you want an internal medicine doctor, you have one right here – we are open for business,” he said.

Hardwicke joins Dr. Eldridge Burns, MD, a family practice physician and Physician's Assistants Amy Page and Sarah Studer in providing care at the clinic.

In addition, Hardwicke will also have admitting privileges at Ballinger Memorial Hospital along with Chief of Staff Dr. Bradley Bundrant and Dr. Burns. Physicians who provide emergency room coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week are Dr. Bundrant, Dr. Burns and Dr. Daniel Heimbecker.

The Ballinger Hospital Clinic is located at 2001 Hutchins Ave. and its hours of operation are 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Doctors see patients during the traditional lunch hour.
