WINTERS - It's all about feeding people this holiday season and thanks to a donation of hams from Spring Market, many of the needy in Winters will have a hearty meal this holiday season.

Samaritan House in Winters is now taking food donations for the holiday season and on Friday, Spring Market in Winters donated 45 hams to the effort.

"We appreciate Spring Market for giving us a donation to feed people in our community," said Barbara Jones, program director of Samaritan House, which offers assistance to those in need in a variety of ways, including providing food items for holiday meals.

The hams were donated Friday at the store in Winters.

"We are excited about this opportunity to give back through this project that helps so many people in the communities we serve," said Spring Market Store Director Chris Hinojosa. "The Hormel Cure 81 ham is a premium brand and product and we're happy to help bring it to the tables of people in need within our market areas."

Hormel Foods and Brookshire Grocery Company donated $100,000 worth of hams to food banks throughout BGC's market area which equals a total of 5,300 hams with 45 in Winters through Samaritan House.

Each month, Samaritan House, which a ministry through the Ministerial Alliance of Winters, assists 150 families with food, provides assistance with utility bills and provides families with clothing.

The gift baskets are already being distributed and by Friday, a total of 30 baskets had been distributed. The gift baskets will be distributed through Wednesday, Dec. 21.

All of the work at Samaritan House is done by volunteers, who help by preparing food bags for clients, sort clothing unload food trucks, stock shelves, take care of small maintenance projects.
