Viva Mexico!

BALLINGER - The Mexican Independence Day Tamale Contest will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Ballinger Community Center at 200 Crosson Ave. There will be a meal, and the Los Compadres Mariachi band and the Metzlti Folklorico dancers from San Angelo will perform. A dance is slated from 9-11 p.m. with the music provided by Trio Tres Huastecos. There will be contests for tamales, table decoration and costumes and judging will be held at 6 p.m. The meal includes an enchilada casserole, a tamale, rice, beans and a salad. Tickets are $25 each for the meal and the dance, and $15 each for the dance only and are available at the Carnegie Library. BALLINGER – A group of vendors will host a special sale from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the Ballinger Community Center at 200 Crosson Ave. A variety of items will be featured including LulaRoe clothing, Mary Kay Cosmetics and Paparazzi jewelry.

Meals on Wheels Sporting Clays Classic Aug. 26

ABILENE - The 12th Annual Meals on Wheels Sporting Clays Classic gets underway on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Abilene Clay Sports. Shooting will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by Meals on Wheels Plus of Abilene. The individual entry fee is $140 per shooter and sponsorships are available. Sponsorships range from Signature level for $5,000; Diamond $3,000; Platinum $2,000; Gold $1,000; Silver $750; Bronze $500; Copper $250 and Station $100.
