BALLLINGER - A group of fourth and fifth grade students of Ballinger Elementary School will be featured in "Disney’s Aladdin KIDS," a musical based on a story that comes from a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales called "One Thousand and One Nights." It is thought that most of these stories are more than 1000 years old.

The production will feature singing, dancing, and interesting dialogue. For most of these students, it is their first experience with musical theatre. However, there are several returning cast members who were fourth graders in "The Lion King," the musical that was presented in the spring of 2016.

"The students and their directors are working very hard to insure another successful production,' said Dale Ellis

The play centers around a story that shows the truth that it is not who you appear to be but who you are inside that really matters.

Aladdin (Owen Duke), Jasmine (Alyssa Fowler), Genie (Emma Harrison), Jafar (Evan Busenlehner), Iago (Madison Nash) Sultan (Nicholas Holder), Tiger God (Miguel Rangel), and the Lamp Vendor (Kendall Galvan-Smith) are some of the characters in this tale of adventure.

Elementary music teacher Ida Lee Ellis, high school English teacher and Theatre Arts Director Deidra Dallas, BHS Band Director Janet Wilson, BJHS Band Director Matt Cleveland, and several junior high and high school students are assisting with the production. Dale Ellis is the vocal coach.

The Ballinger Elementary presentation will take place in the Ballinger High School Auditorium at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21. Admission for the musical is $5 for adults and $3 for school age children.
