Runnels County CPS presents Live Opry Theater at the Carnegie Library Friday April, 28 and Saturday April 29. Tickets are $20 each. The doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the dinner show begins at 7 p.m. The entertainment will include performances by members of the CPS board. The proceeds benefit the Runnels County CPS Board and the Carnegie Library. Door prizes will be presented. Tickets are available at Ballinger City Hall, Carnegie Library, Higginbotham's in Ballinger and the Winters Tax Office.

Runnin’ for Runnels April 22

The Runnin’ for Runnels 5K and Bike-A-Thon is set for Saturday, April 22. The event, sponsored by the Texas A & M AgriLife Extension office and benefits Runnels County 4-H clubs. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and bikes start rolling at 8:30 a.m. and runners begin at 9 a.m. Registration and the starting location will be held on Selby Road and County Road 230 near Tractor Supply Company. Entry fees are $25. Stop by the Runnels County Extension Office at 608 Sealy Ave. to register or call 325-365-2219 for more information. All participants who pre-register by April 10 will receive a t-shirt.

Save the date: Ethnic Fest April 29

BALLINGER - The Texas State Festival of Ethnic Cultures Arts and Crafts Show will get underway on the Runnels County Courthouse lawn on Saturday, April 29. The festival has been an annual event for more than 42 years in Runnels County. More than 3,000 visitors are expected to attend the event that includes arts and crafts booths, fun activities for children, delicious food and great music.

Colorado River Bikefest April 29

BALLINGER – The 42nd Annual Colorado River Bikefest will be held Saturday April 29. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Runnels County Courthouse square at the corner of 7th Street and Hutchins Avenue. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. There will be 30K, 60K and 100 K tours available and the entry fee is $25. The first 100 entrants will receive t-shirts. Color Time and Knitting

WINTERS - Color Time and Knitting sessions will be held from noon to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Winters Public Library. Participants for Color Time can select project from coloring books at the library and the colored pencils will be provided. Relax to music while coloring and may come and go at their convenience. Knitting session participants are asked to bring their yarn. Those who are just learning, may get help from an instructor.

Support group meeting

BALLINGER - Carnegie Library's support group focusing on dementia, including Alzheimer's care giving and care givers, loss, changes and transition will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, in the Shakespeare room at 204 N. 8th St. Refreshments will be provided. (This group is no longer called Healing Hearts).

Farm Bureau scholarships available

Runnels County Farm Bureau scholarship applications are now available. There will be three $1,000 scholarships awarded. Applications may be picked up at all of the high schools in the county or the Texas Farm Bureau office located at 809 Hutchings Ave, Ballinger. The deadline to apply s is April 14.

Taco luncheon cancelled

BALLINGER - Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Taco Luncheon, sponsored by the Ballinger Memorial Hospital Auxiliary on April 25, has been cancelled. Money will be refunded to those who have already purchased tickets.

BALLINGER - Make plans to come by the Art Gallery located in the lobby of the Cook Professional Building at 804 Hutchins Ave. in downtown Ballinger. Visitors will see a variety of paintings on display by a featured artist of the month plus other art from members of the Mid-West Texas Artist Guild at the Do-Art Studio. The featured artist for April and May is Tom Orsak. The exhibit and sale times are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and varied times on Friday.

BMH under construction

BALLINGER - Temporary entrances have been established services have been temporarily relocated at Ballinger Memorial Hospital while the roof on the building is being replaced. During the construction, the main lobby and entrance at 608 Ave. B will be closed and relocated to the Ballinger Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation & Wellness Center at the corner of Avenue B and FM 2887, directly behind BMH and home to Ballinger Family Dentistry. During the project, the main parking lot and entrance (at 608 Ave. B) will be closed to the public and reserved for ambulances only. Visitors and patients are asked to park at the BMH Outpatient Rehabilitation & Wellness Center. Signage will direct visitors to the proper parking locations. Staff members will be available to answer any questions.

Winters Library news

WINTERS - The Winters Public Library has public access Internet computers and free WiFi. The library is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

WINTERS - Runnels County residents may obtain diabetes and blood pressure screenings at the Winters Public Library from 9 a.m. to noon the third Wednesday of each month. Do not eat before the screening for the best results. The library is closed at that time, so those wishing to obtain a screening must enter through the back door of the library o Grant Street. For the best results for this test, do not eat two hours before screening.

GED Classes at Ballinger Elementary

GED classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesdays at Balllinger Elementary. Attendees should enter the building at the third grade entrance. The classes are free and open to the public sponsored through West Central Texas Adult Education which is part of Abilene Independent School District.
