Bill and Linda (Darby) Flynt of Midland celebrate their 60th anniversary December 14, 2016. They were married on December 14, 1956, at First Baptist Church of Ballinger, Texas by the Reverend LeRay Fowler. Bill and Linda met in high school, when she complimented him on his diving at the swimming pool. Bill was a sophomore and Linda was a freshman. Both were proud members of the Bearcat Band. During that time, Bill became an Eagle Scout and Linda served as President of the Home Economics Club. After High School, Bill served in the Navy.
After their marriage, they moved to San Angelo, Texas, where their daughters were born, before heading to College Station, Texas. There, Bill completed his bachelor’s degree in industrial education at Texas A&M University as a member of the Class of ’62. Their son was born during Bill’s senior year, making his appearance right before Bill’s 8:00 AM final. They left College Station with three children under the age of five and many life-long friendships.
They lived in several different places before settling in Midland, where they have lived their lives together raising a family, serving in their church, and moving through life with a generosity of heart and spirit that has touched many other lives. They have lived well and loved well and they have been well loved in return.
While living in Midland, Bill and Linda celebrated the weddings of their daughters Cindy Flynt Caldwell to husband, Steve; and Deborah Flynt Maxwell to husband Phill; and of their granddaughter Jennifer Caldwell Carpenter to husband Timothy; and they have welcomed the arrival of their great-grandchildren, Christopher James Carpenter and Logan Warren Carpenter. Their son, Christopher Marion Flynt, died in1980, having lived a brief, but rich life. He has been greatly missed, and the family is sustained by the knowledge that they will be reunited with him in heaven.
Bill retired after 47 years of service in the insurance and safety fields. Linda is retired from Arco after 24 years of service. On their 60th anniversary, their family celebrates the steadfast commitment of their marriage, the accomplishments of their lives, and their legacy of faith, family and investing in the lives of others.
