Elon Joe Allcorn

Friday, November 18, 2022, with his wife of 66 years by his side, holding his hand, Joe Allcorn left his earthly body to be reunited with his heavenly loved ones who have been missed for years.

Elon Joe Allcorn was born on February 28, 1935, on a farm near Crews, Texas, the eldest son of William Lonnie Allcorn and Anna Willeen (Day) Allcorn of Talpa, Texas.

He graduated from Talpa High School in May 1953, Howard Payne College in August 1956, Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1957, and Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU Dallas in 1986.

Joe married Shirley Ann Rowe, of Talpa on August 28, 1956. Their family grew to include four sons – Richard, Michael, Stephen and Jeffrey. Joe’s family always came first to him and he unapologetically loved them all beyond measure.

Joe worked in the funeral home business for many years before moving to the banking industry. He and his wife Shirley decided to settle in Round Rock where he was the VP for First State Bank. Joe already had his real estate broker’s license and used it in his banking operations. It was no surprise when he and Shirley purchased a RE/MAX franchise and opened the 1st RE/MAX office in Round Rock. They continued until retirement in 2010 and moved to San Angelo to be near family and friends in retirement. Joe was a devout Christian, a deacon of the church, a Sunday school teacher, and so much more. He has influenced so many during his years.

Elon Joe Allcorn is preceded in death by both his parents, Lonnie and Willeen Allcorn, his brothers Foy Allcorn and Leon Allcorn, and his youngest son Jeffrey Allcorn. He is survived by his wife Shirley Ann (Rowe) Allcorn (San Angelo, Texas); his remaining three sons Rich (Jane) Allcorn (Austin, Texas), Mike (Leslie) Allcorn (McKinney, Texas), and Steve (Caroline) Allcorn (Argyle, Texas); grandchildren – Joshua Allcorn, John Allcorn, Joseph (Emily) Morgenstern, Zane (Ashley) Allcorn, Brittany (Scott) Lowe, Christopher (Katie) Allcorn, Charlie Deeter, Eddie Deeter, and Chris Detter; great-grandchildren – Merritt, Charlie, and Shepherd Morgenstern; Davis and Georgia Allcorn; Boone, Lyndon Blu; Kru and Kaleb Lowe; and Lottie and Marion Jo Allcorn. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law, Margaret Allcorn (Abilene, Texas), and his beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 4-6 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. A funeral service will be at First Baptist Church on 400 N 8th St. in Ballinger Saturday, November 26 at 10 a.m.
