The Runnels County Register’s Athlete of the Week this week is the entire Winters Blizzards football team. They’ve had a rough year of ups and downs, but they never stop fighting. They play hard from the first play to the last play, regardless of the score.

Runnels County you to celebrate national 4H week, Oct. 2-8

The anticipation is building for National 4-H Week, during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will be celebrating everything 4-H. Runnels 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people, and will highlight the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them.

Runnels County teams fall in football

All three of our Runnels County teams fell in football last Friday. There wasn’t a lot to be said other than that our players played until the last second of each game. It wasn’t all bad news as the teams improved in some areas. Blizzards fall to Stamford 48-12 The Winters Blizzards (1-4, 0-1) fell on the road in their district opener against the Stamford Bulldogs by the score of 48-12.

Football Wrap-up

WINTERS, Texas - Well, the rivalry between Miles and Winters heated up quickly on Friday night. It wasn’t the two squads from a mere 20-miles apart that got the game off to a hot start on the night of Winters’ Homecoming. It was the officiating. And, it wasn’t decidedly one-sided calls that had the teams trying to compete against officiating and each other.

Miles, Winters win as Bearcats remain winless

BALLINGER - Before I get into the story of Miles vs Water Valley, I want to point something out. Miles has been playing teams who are in their first year of 11man football. That isn’t to denigrate the Bulldogs wins or their opponents’ losses. I only point it out because we never belittle the teams, or the players, that Miles, or any Runnels County team has faced, or will face.

MILES - Dylan Garza is the Runnels County Register’s Athlete of the Week! Against the Water Valley Wildcats, Garza had 3 touchdowns; rushed twice for 36-yards and 1 TD; caught 2 passes for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns, and had 2 tackles on defense. Congrats Dylan! Other nominees came in from Coach Matt McCarty of Winters.
