Here we are, Christmas is in 4 days, the greatest time of the year; at least in my book. We laugh and joke with family at Thanksgiving as the excitement builds while we prepare to do some Christmas shopping.

And then there were none. TCU and Angelo State football teams lost this past weekend. No more undefeated teams in Texas. My schedule just opened up a bunch. I have been watching local sports teams on the television. This new cable choice called NFHS is the best deal anywhere. I watched several Miles games and parts of the Wall game. Too cool for words. Watching local youth play live ball on the tube is the best.
Sometimes the year flies by faster than we realize. I think as we get older we learn to savor our time and to make the most of it. We watch our children grow into adults and then have children of their own. If we’re truly lucky, we get to see our grandchildren grow up to have children of their own.
Spinning tops flung long ago finally stopped, they were like the season’s final flailing of turkeys soon to be main courses on Thanksgiving tables. For some journalists, however, minds continue to spin--conjuring, probing, marveling and expressing--thoughts about life, sometimes exceeding sublime or falling short of ridiculous.

I’ve always been a Christmas junkie. My family was traditional with turkey dinner during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve changed that now to prime rib or venison roast for my family and I on the big day. Well, for myself and my daughter when she comes in from her university for the holidays.
