MLB payroll disparity a big problem

PHOENIX – We’ve reached the quarter mark in Major League Baseball where the 2022 New York Yankees are playing like the ’27 Yankees, the Seattle Mariners are playing like a team that isn’t remotely close to ending their 21-year postseason drought, and teams we thought would stink are playing even worse than envisioned.

The tournament was formed as a fundraiser for the tournament's namesake, Hooter Magruder, a volunteer fire fighter in west Texas who came down with cancer 8 years ago. It has traditionally been held on Lake Amistad but was moved to O.H. Ivie this year.

RIVER HONORING

MOIESE, Mont. – A sunlit field along the Flathead River outside of Moiese was home base for all kinds of student learning recently. • Wildlife and science lessons paired with cultural activities and traditional games such as double ball, prompting some students to run and scream with glee. • All those play a part in the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ River Honoring, which brought about 400 children a day on Tuesday and Wednesday for its largest turnout since 2019. • The goal was to teach children about the river and natural resource programs, said Stephanie Gillin, CSKT information and education specialist, and “everything we do, we try to incorporate culture.” • So the presentations ran the gamut from wildlife to forestry and water quality. The children heard from Séliš and Q’lispé elders and scientists and experts from Salish Kootenai College and tribal departments. The Mission Valley Backcountry Horsemen came, too.

The moment when fun-poking gets serious …

The memory is lodged in my brain’s recesses, as closely as mistletoe clings to mesquite trees. Our parents — neither with educational opportunities beyond high school — provided commonsense counsel for my brother and me.

What you need to know about COVID now

RUNNELS COUNTY - For the past few weeks we have been examining important health problems, to see what can be done at the local level to reduce the impact of those problems. Last week I ended with this, “Having made a good start toward answering, ‘What are the most important problems?’ next week we will begin to look at some of the things that can be done.” We will indeed do so. However, this article is one which is very different from the one I had expected to
