Each year I write an article on celebrations of Christmas around the world. This year, I’ll be doing something a little bit different.

BALLINGER - The Last Chapter (TLC) on Highway 67 just south of Ballinger has become the go-to spot for everything Christmas. Each year they keep adding more choices for visitors and customers. They bring in a wide arrangement of wreaths, fresh cut Christmas trees, and gift options. This year is no different, “We’ve brought in over 120 fresh-cut trees,” says co-proprietor Jonathan Smith.

I spent several years in Germany when I was in the army. I spent 4 of my 9 years in the army traveling through different European countries when I wasn’t deployed. One year, I discovered something that went beyond my wildest dreams, and has since become one of my favorite holiday desserts, Stollen, or Christmas Stollen.

As the fighting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, let’s take a look at the Christmas traditions of that war torn country as we continue to hope and pray for peace. Traditional Ukrainian Christmas festivities start on Christmas Eve, which is celebrated on 6 January, as reckoned by the Julian calendar.
